Just as promised, a few photos

The iconic Ratusz (Town Hall), in the Rynek (Market Square)

And in close up

Ooh, look Mum!

Such a pretty square, even on a grey day.

Look up! Look up!

Oh did my legs ache when I got to the top of St Elizabeth’s to take this for you!

And this!

The Cathedral on Ostrow Tumski

Yes, I climbed this one for you too!

That’s Dad sitting down there under the yellow umbrella at Jan Pawla 2 Hotel!

The Cathedral up close

Remember the magical bridge from my last 6WS? This is how it looks in close up!

A peaceful spot on the River Odra

And a rather more playful one! I tested out that lounger. It works just fine.

Still feeling playful? Delightful Plac Solny.

And some more children having a good time.

Remember the Polish Eagle? This one’s above a bank.

The Oratorium in the fabulous University buildings.

The ceilings are wonderful- and don’t miss Aula Leopoldina

The dancing fountains at the Centennial Park

My lovely niece, Basia- more about the gnomes later.
I really have to stop now, but I took well over 300 pictures of Wroclaw. I think you’ll agree it was worth it? Tempted to visit? You should be. Sadly I can’t lend you my wonderful family but I had a truly great time and can’t thank them enough.
I should also thank Cath of Show My Face for the opportunity of sharing these with you. Six Words? Not exactly, but if you follow the links you’ll get the idea, and maybe join in next week. See you then? The button below or my 6WS page will take you to more Saturday fun.

Indeed, a beautiful place Jo. I just love those old town squares.
Full post to follow when I have time, David. Basia is staying with me till next weekend so I’m acting local tour guide till then, but I couldn’t resist sharing just a “few”. It made an interesting comparison with Krakow and Warsaw.
You have taken some fantastic photos there
Thank you. It’s a lovely city to wander round with a camera.
I am so glad you climbed those stairs to give up the wonderful roof top view. In this post you showed us so many beautiful and enchanted places and buildings. I loved them all. Thanks again for sharing your travels with us. Three hundred pictures, sounds like me. (smile)
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
The oldest working lift in Poland took us half way up the cathedral, Francine. St Elizabeth’s was much harder work. Then we went to Durham City in the UK and climbed over 300 steps to the top of our cathedral (in the rain!). I’m a glutton for punishment.
Glad you enjoyed.
WOW, I am even more impressed.
What a gorgeous city! Absolutely beautiful buildings.
I was told there are more than 100 bridges, Tilly. I thought of making it a mission to cross each of them, but then thought again!
That’s a GREAT idea! You don’t have to do it all in one visit, but you should definitely think about it. Plus, it gives you a good meme to blog about
Absolutely beautiful pictures.
Thanks Wayne! It was so much fun taking them all.
Love the architecture and patterned rooftops.Great photos.Tells a story of this city, from every angle. Thanks for sharing.
Loved every minute of it, Lynne, even when my feet hurt! Thank you for reading.
Beautiful architecture, water fountains, cathedral, river… What an enjoyable trip!
It surely was! Now I’m busy being a tourist at home, showing Basia around north east England.
I gotta get out more….
Still? No- you’re happy with life, Ron. Many thanks for reading.
just one word: WOW!! what beautiful pics and a beautiful place too. Was this one particular town in Poland? I loved these pics so much, I’m going to have another look or two or six
I’ll have to check out this challenge too. So many challenges, so little time….
oh, I see it now: Wroclaw! missed that the first go-round
Sorry Toby- it was a follow up to a previous Six word Saturday, but I’m glad you got there in the end. In terms of cities I’ve managed Krakow (another family base), Warsaw and now Wroclaw, and they’re all brilliant, so if you ever get the chance… Thanks for your enthusiasm.
this is so strange and something I don’t get about wordpress. I never got notified of this reply. I only remembered that I commented here when I saw your Sunday Post just now and then came looking. goofy!! I wonder how many others I’ve missed… ah well, just one of those little things one wonders about
I’ve never been to Poland, I think I might have to get there!
It IS a bit of a challenge sometimes Toby. Somtimes I reply in the dropdown from the box at the top and sometimes from the post itself, but I’m never sure if it’s reached the target. Don’t know if you’ll get this? But you can’t cross check everything- life’s too short! (Go! go!)
Very nice Jo! Maybe I need to consider visiting Poland!!
I could recommend a hotel? When you’re back from the States.
Ok! I’m trying to think where to go over the Eid on Oct. 25. I was originally thinking Lebanon, but the State Dept. has a traveler’s warning for Lebanon. Then I was thinking Prague. But I can be swayed toward anything!!
You’ll need to wrap up warm. Let me know if you want suggestions. Stateside here you come!
In six words, I am speechless!
Now THAT doesn’t happen every day, Gem! The desired effect- thank you.
How stunning! I’d love to spend some time touring here!
It’s really beautiful, Karen. You wouldn’t be disappointed.
I wanna go… I wanna go… I wanna go.
These pictures are amazing and I just love all the old buildings!
It’s a long haul for you, but fairly cheap when you get there. You’d love it.
Beautiful!
Thank you! It’s a really interesting city, as well as being beautiful.
I loved every one of your pictures, Jo.
It brngs back memmories. We visited in the Summer of 2010 [http://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/search/label/Summer%202010%20European%20holiday]. That is where I found my little street ‘bee fellow’ that shows up a lot on my picture and poem blog.
I am liking your Olympics too! There are a few openning ceremony pictures here, Jim’s Six Words for July 28
..
Glad you liked them Jim. I’ll be over to 6WS soon. Son just arrived from Uni with washing, etc. Needs feeding!
Amazing photos! Thanks for sharing!
I so enjoyed it! Thank you for reading.
Glad you fulfilled your promise, because I am fascinated by all your photos – the architecture and decorative stonework….by husband is Portuguese and our name is ‘Taveira’….how about that!
How strange is life! What a nice coincidence.
It’s an odd thing- though the architecture is not alike, in many ways Poland and Portugal have a similar feel to them, away from the cities. Old fashioned values that we really like.
Your photos are awesome! I have never been here but it looks very beautiful. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Many thanks Margie. I don’t suppose I would have been there either if Dad hadn’t reunited with his Polish family a few years ago. I’m so happy that he did.
So beautiful! I spent a lot of time traveling in Europe but never made it to Poland. I would love to visit someday. Looking forward to more of your posts!
Thank you! Got a week of hosting Polish family then back to “normal”.
These pictures were really good. What great buildings and pretty scenery!
Linda @ Truthful Tidbits
Thanks Linda! I’m no photographer, unfortunately, but I love capturing snippets of our wonderful world.
Very beautiful! I really like the fountain.
Thanks Debbie. There was a 15 minute “performance” from the fountains every hour, and then on Friday and Saturday evenings an illuminated spectacular. I loved it!
Great photos! Glad you had fun.
We did! We did! It continues at home because I’ve brought my 16 year old niece back with me for her first visit to England. York is scheduled for today.
I really love your post my friend what a great contribution for entire blogosphere ,thanks for sharing
Jake you are so kind. Thank you very much!
Beautiful, so beautiful… Thank you dear Johanna, love, nia
Thank you Nia. Not enough hours in the day, are there….
Fun photos. Love the riverboat scene with the cathedral and the gnomes photos. Cheers to six word saturday.
Thanks for staying in touch. There are apparently over 100 gnomes and a map is available so you can track them down. I’m a disappointment- I didn’t hunt for them all.
Thank you for doing all that climbing because the pictures turned out wonderful!
Oh my aching legs! Couldn’t face the church tower on York Minster today, but will absolutely be climbing the steps to the Abbey at Whitby tomorrow Meg. Thank you!
Wow…amazing photos here! Love the detail on the churches…
They’re pretty, aren’t they? Thank you.
You bet I am tempted! (That’s six
)
Gorgeous, gorgeous photos and thanks for going to all that trouble to show us that view.
I hate to be pernickety but it’s 5! Good job you don’t have time for 6WS Madhu…
It’s a pleasure to look back at photos of this lovely city.
Oops, missed the ‘very’
Too much blog reading!
Know the feeling, honey. That’s what I put it down to. I’m in for a super duper dose now the family’s gone home.

Thanks Ana. It really was a beautiful place, with so much variety.
From Japan. Thank you for visiting my blog. I have not been to Britain yet.
