Jakesprinter is celebrating Hope with his Sunday Post this week. Newly returned from the Algarve, I’m afraid my hope is very selfish- that my dream of retirement in this beautiful place might not be too far off.

But one thing is always certain- I’d have to be close to boats and the sea
Thank you, Jake. I may be home again, but the hope is still very much alive. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone else is hoping for this week, so join me over on Jake’s page? You won’t be sorry.

I hope you had a lovely trip – ahh dream on x
It was wonderful, Suze. Lovely weather (always nice to get the shorts on in January) and some beautiful walks, and good company. One of these days …
I love the sound of your dream retirement house
I’m always looking, whenever I’m there, Tink.
Oh boy, the Portuguese are masters of the use of tiles. On my last visit there I could not get enough of the tiles on the walls and how they decorate the sidewalks. Hope your dream comes true.
Thank you! I absolutely love them. Drives my husband a little bit crazy the number of times I stop to admire. There’s a village near us, Santa Luzia, almost all done in the old style. I could walk round it for hours.
May all your hopes be realised.
Right now I’m hoping for a perfect wedding, Viv. Getting so excited! I bought her a Venice guide book today for the honeymoon (it’s ok- she doesn’t read the blog)
Jo, I HOPE your hopes come true! This is just the kind of place where I would love to retire!
A few years ago on “A Place in the Sun” there were two cottages sharing a plot in Central Portugal. They were beautiful and I’ve never forgotten them. We could be joint tenants, Cath!
Sounds quite wonderful, Jo. Will you be in Portugal this summer, because you know I’m planning my trip to Spain & Portugal, leaving from Oman at the end of June? I should be in both countries throughout July.
I’d forgotten about that, Cath. We’re not at all organised for the rest of the year. I’m supposed to be going to Poland with Dad late April/May and after that we will be back in the Algarve. We have some friends who are out there for 2 weeks in June, and I was hoping to overlap one week with them, but flight prices are the important thing, so I’ll keep you posted. Can’t afford to book anything just yet.
I hope you get your tiled house soon!
Thanks, Margaret. I would settle for a move to our present home, and more opportunities to look!
Dreams can come true!
I’m pretty sure of that, Chica. My daughter is busy making her dream wedding and honeymoon come true. She’s sewn and sewn and cooked to make it happen!
And how is your outfit coming on? I seem to remember when you announced it that you didn’t know what to wear to a SteamPunk wedding!
I was clueless, but I have acquired a “Downton Abbey” frock which I hope will do the job.
Such a beautiful place. I hope your dreams come true.
Thanks, Judy. Some day …
I hope you get what you wish for!
Thanks, Andrew! I’ll carry right on enjoying my visits till then.
I love the tiles and lacy balconies and I hope that you do get your dream one day, and that it exceeds expectations.
Many thanks, Lorna. I’m sure a tiled tearoom would go down well?
Indeed!
I love this post!!!! I love how it is written and all the pictures!!! I have to see Portugal someday.
When I have this perfect little house, I’ll invite you, Nicole. Thank you!
Oh!!! I would love to visit!
Great entry for the hope theme! Love it.
It was uppermost in my thoughts, Amy. Thanks!

Great idea for the challenge, Jo. Love your pics. Hope it all comes to pass one day soon.
Me too, Sylvia. Thanks, hon. But first the wedding. So excited!
The wonderful thing about hope is the dreaming it inspires. I love your focus.. the sea, a pretty home, and it seems, a lot of peace and joy! xx
That’s about it, Smidge, with one wonderful wedding to look forward to this weekend. Can’t sleep for excitement.
I really hope your dream comes true!
Thanks Dianne. It’s been a long term plan and sometimes it doesn’t seem to get any closer, but I still have a lot to be happy and grateful for.
I’ve been dreaming of a similar thing for a long time and now I can see it all unfolding in front of me. It does happen!
I’m happy for you x
Hope and dreams lead to plans and, they say the beginning of fruition! Visualise, they say, keep the vision before you … seems you’re on the way, Jo
I’ve enjoyed every second of it so far, Meredith. I’m mindful of “being careful what I wish for”. Maybe I should just enjoy the journey.
I just love the tiles Jo, I have a large collection of photos of tiles from our visit to Portugal last year. Are tiles all different, like a family tartan?
That’s an interesting question, Georgia! I’ll have to look into it and let you know. Some are quite common and you see them everywhere, others much more rare and individual. There’s certainly a regional aspect to it.
I couldn’t think of any photos for that theme of hope so I skipped it, but I live your take on it!
Thanks, Milka. It’s really just what was foremost in my mind. I’d downloaded all the photos and was just looking for a chance to share some.
it sounds like the perfect place to be Jo…I do hope we will get to see you in your Downton Abbey outfit when the time comes…pretty please !!!
I’m getting quite nervous, Jo, and I really am not even sure why, as Lisa has done all the planning and work, but yes, the outfit’s there, at the ready for Saturday.
Jo, so much whimsy to be found there! The ubiquitous colorful tiles are something I vividly remember from my time in Lisbon and Porto. Beautiful. How many trips do you make there each year?
Never enough, Tricia! Last year was very lean- only 3, I think! 4 weeks and a bit. We’re off to a good start this year, and I did state categorically that I was going for a month at some point- probably around my birthday in November.
What a fab gallery – just like I remember the Portugal too. All the beautiful tiles everywhere and the sun .. flowers.
My husband is getting a little tired of hanging around while I get up close and personal with the tiles- but who can blame me? They’re lovely, Viveka.
Great shots … all of them. Can I ask for your vote … for my little love swan chicken – http://rodposse.com/2013/02/04/14th-challenger-qutie/ – if you think it’s worth it.
Oh the tiles and those balconies would make anyone dream! Hope yours come true Jo
Thanks, Madhu. I’m working on it.
Beautiful interpretation Jo,Great choices of images and design …..
Thanks for sharing my friend
Thank you, Jake, for providing the theme. I couldn’t wait to post some photos now I’m home again.
I hope your dream comes true!
It really does look a beautiful place to retire to
Thanks, Vicky. When we bought our house I thought we’d be there by now, but life doesn’t always work out the way you hope. I still can’t claim to have a miserable existence though, can I?
Those pictures show how beautiful it would be to live in Portugal. I hope it happens for you!
Thanks, Meg. I’ve had so many good wishes. I’ll keep dreaming but soon I’m going to have to make it happen.
It sounds like a very pretty little house.
I keep looking, Elaine. Sorry I missed you last week- it’s been busy.
My wish is that YOUR dream comes true, Jo! And then I will come visit you for it simply looks divine through your pictures. Lovely post.
Thanks, Tahira. Dreaming, hoping, finger crossing- I’m trying everything!
living there would be a pleasant daily dream
I’m working towards it- someday it might happen, and till then there’s plenty to enjoy.
The tiles are beautiful and I hope you get everything you wish for
Thanks, Maggie. I’m just back from my daughter’s wedding and watching the Departures Board for her Venice flight online. Life’s pretty good.
