Amazing what you can find on Wikipedia, isn’t it?  Big thanks to them for all of these images.  I hope to see these and much more, but I don’t know what time I’ll get back.  I probably won’t be able to link to Cate at Show My Face early doors, but hope to catch up later.

Don’t forget to find six words for Saturday, will you?  Have a great day!

This is my last Awards post.

Why, you might ask?  I may never receive another and then the problem won’t arise.  But the fact is that I write a travel blog, and truly love doing it. When I began my blogging adventure, the concept of Awards was an amazement to me.  Then it did what it was supposed to do and introduced me to some wonderful people.  LOTS of wonderful people.

It is a point of pride with me that I respond to and visit every single person who places a like or a comment on my blog.   I will always do this.  And it will lead me to more wonderful people. Trouble is, it has a kind of snowball effect, though I hate to mention that word after the winter some of us have had! So I will wear my Awards with pride, and I will maintain an Awards page to thank those lovely people who have heaped honours on me.  Thank you all so much.  But I won’t be posting any awards acceptance posts after today.

Got to end with killer shoes!  This Seven Awards in One was passed on to me by Sherri Matthews. Talk about go out with a bang!  Sherri is a lovely lady who stays positive and full of warmth despite the difficulties presented by her daughter’s Asperger’s Syndrome.  I’ve learned a lot and laughed a lot alongside Sherri.  She is a pleasure to know.

Shelley at Living with Shadows was kind enough to bestow the Dragons Loyalty Award on me too. Nothing like a bit of fire on a winter’s morning, or even a chilly Spring one.  Shelley has her own health issues, but escapes into fantasy when she can.  If you can find the time, and haven’t met them, please go and say hello.

I couldn’t leave without a few Spring flowers by way of apology.  Enjoy your weekend, and don’t forget to share six words with Cate at Show My Face. My word count says 340.  I must have gone wrong somewhere!

Moonshine

A moonlight wander.

fills the night

with romance.

And romance

I’m cheating just a little because I have too many challenges and not enough week.  So I’m linking my Six word Saturday to Jakesprinter’s Sunday Post, but at least I’m keeping it brief!  If you’ve never met him, Jake is a lovely guy who produces amazing animation.  The theme this week is Moonshine. Go and say ‘hi’ but then don’t forget to visit Cate at 6WS, or she’ll be upset.

Time to send a Spring bouquet!

Daphne (or so my husband tells me)

Daphne (or so my husband tells me)

And who shall I send it to?  Why, all of you, of course, but with a special thought for friends who are having a hard time right now.  I hope the flowers help to lift your spirits.  I wish you all a joyful weekend.  Keep smiling!

Feeling “all at sea” this morning!

I need something soothing to look at.

This little guy too, I think

Or two!

Or two?

And so am I!

And so have I!

Back on dry land.

Safely back to shore.

It was a “girl’s night” last night and I overindulged.  Feeling decidedly rocky today.  Hope you have a nice weekend planned.  Join Cate on Show My Face if you have time.  I usually do.

One hundred Six word Saturday posts!

Shall we celebrate with cake?

Shall we celebrate with cake?

I first joined this challenge on 7th January, 2012.  I had only been blogging for a couple of months and didn’t really have a clue what I was doing.  I simply knew that I wanted to write about travel, and that I needed to extend my readership.  I loved playing with words, too, and the challenge gave me that opportunity.

Two years later, and where am I?  Well, I’ve travelled all right.  Remember Barcelona, or even Porto?

Was there ever a stranger landscape?

I’ve taken you with me many times to my lovely Tavira, and to Poland to meet the family.  We’ve wandered around the streets, stately homes and cliff tops of England (and over the border to Edinburgh, too)  We’ve made some strange discoveries together.  Remember Saltburn-by-the-Sea?

And, of course, you’ve met my lovely daughter and been introduced to the concept of Steampunk. Those cakes in the header were consumed in her presence (no, not ALL of them!)

In the course of my journey I’ve met some wonderful people.  I’ve learned a little about all kinds of subjects.  So many of you are good at crafts!  My lovely friend Viv has taught me to appreciate poetry, and provided me with cheerful company at Northumberlandia on a bitterly cold day.  And along the way I seem to have picked up an obsession with photography.

I must have done a few things right because this morning my number of “followers” topped 2000!  What can I say except thank you very much to each and every one of you who has liked or commented on one of my posts.

Since joining Six word Saturday I have contributed every week, unless I have been abroad.  I’m well aware that my direction has changed since the beginning, and that 6WS may not be the best vehicle for what I like to do.  I have to thank Cate at Show My Face for her tolerance in allowing me to push the boundaries of six words.  You could say “gentle manipulation”?  I hope you’ve all enjoyed my company as much as I’ve enjoyed yours.  If you’d like to see where two years has taken me, click on my Six word Saturday page.

The case of the disappearing train!

Full steam ahead!

Full steam ahead!

Or just a bookcase?

Or simply a bookcase?

During the week I’m going to take you to a wonderful museum at Preston Park, in North Yorkshire.  Because it’s Saturday and I only have six words to describe it (smile!), I’ll just give you a little taster, like the Header above.

A perfect way to tell the time

A perfect way to tell the time!

Snuff anybody? No thanks, but the case is stunning.

Snuff anybody? No thanks, but isn’t the case stunning?

And of course, there are costumes.

And of course, there are costumes.

As I walked into the museum I looked at a “faux” bookcase- or so I thought!  I’d just turned away to the cabinets when, with a mighty roar, the steam train came clanking through.  Then disappeared just as suddenly, and all was still.

Yes, I’m still playing with Headers, but have rejected the “Random” option.  I like a little more control over how I look!  “Menus” aren’t much of an option either, as I’m only allowed one with this theme.

Do join us at Six word Saturday!  There’s always something going on, and Cate at Show My Face will be most happy to receive you.  Just click on the link or the logos.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful…

IMG_2191But I’m one of the lucky ones- safe and warm!  It must have been a horrendous Christmas for those who were flooded or without power.  Nothing to do but try to smile and carry on.

Here, it’s been a mixed bag.  I didn’t have much luck on the beach at Crimdon on Christmas Eve.

I should have kept my eye on those clouds!

I should have kept my eye on those clouds!

The blue was disappearing at an alarming rate!

Our skies have been very mean and moody!

How about this for a mean and moody sky?

But I wanted to reach the end of the cove

But I wanted to reach the end of the cove

I think that might be far enough!

Time to make a break for it!

Time to make a run for it!

Of course, we got wet!

Of course, we got wet!

But 2 minutes later, it looked like this.

But two minutes later, it looked like this.

Then we had a decidedly frosty day- our first this Winter!  The park looked very pretty.

Crisp and clear!

Crisp and bright!

The wildlife pond was looking rather handsome

But cold!

(if cold)

And part of the pond was frozen.

And part of the pond was frozen

But I loved the drama of the light.

But I loved the dramatic light through the trees.

Since then the winds have been wild, but I have no reason at all to complain. I’m sitting tight with my little snowman friends.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful...

Oh, the weather outside is frightful…

Hope you’re having a peaceful time in these days between Christmas and the New Year.  I won’t be around for Six word Saturday for a week or two.  Keep Cate company, won’t you?  And a very happy New Year to you!

Fit to drop!  An apt expression!

This weeks’ Six word Saturday was to have been :

Getting Barcelona out of my system!

but the first is far more appropriate.  I took part in a zumba marathon last night, for the local hospice, and Lumiere at Durham absorbed all of my evening on Thursday.  I thoroughly enjoyed both but the mountain of ironing is giving me baleful looks, not to mention visiting all your lovely blogs.  What’s that saying- “the show must go on?”

Come on- hop on your bike and let's go!

Come on- hop on your bike and let’s go! (El Quatre Gats, Barcelona)

As always, you can click on any photo to set the gallery rolling.  Well, I’m tired but happy now.  Any volunteers to do that ironing?  No, I thought not!

Instead, why not join Cate at Show My Face?  I always do!  See you next week.  Hope it’s a good one for you.

6ws-participating-in-bannerTime to see RED?  Not really!

IMG_0288If you asked me what my favourite colour is, I’d probably say red.  But when I look back through my photos I find that they are predominantly blues.  Often the reds are a wine colour, like the leaves from my Virginia Creeper, above.  Or I’ve used the red as an accent colour, like my favourite dress, which is white with deep blue and red flowers on.

I can have endless arguments with my husband about colour, but it doesn’t really matter.  It’s all beautiful, isn’t it?  No need to see red at all!

Thanks for humouring me this Saturday.  Hope your weekend sparkles, whatever shade it is.  Many thanks to Cate at Show My Face.  Hope she’s feeling better this week.  Do click on the logos or the link to join in.
